About

We are a group of people, associations, collectives and activities that have come together to create San Lorenzo Pride.

Although we are very different* from each other, we share the fact that we live and love this neighbourhood and share the idea that San Lorenzo should be an accessible and welcoming place, from an intersectional transfeminist perspective, for all LGBTQIAK+ people.

We believe in the power of differences and plurality, which is why we intend to build a network of cooperation with all realities (in the neighbourhood and beyond) that share our demands.

What We do
San Lorenzo Pride was born in 2021, on the wave of small European local prides, as a response to the LGBTQIAK+ community's need to bring the original instances of Pride to the neighbourhood. 

The need to re-appropriate private, public and collective spaces gave rise to a calendar of workshops, talks, thematic circles and other events and initiatives.

For three years, ours has been a widespread, independent, self-financed and free event that rejects rainbow washing and aims to be accessible to all subjectivities.

Where
Based in San Lorenzo, but we try to be wherever there is space and need to make “our” voice heard.

When

The first San Lo Pride took place during the week of Roma Pride 2021 and the second extended over a whole month.

This year we want to build a longer course of events leading up to June so that we can expand our cultural offering.

Why

We strongly believe that the liveability of a neighbourhood, its usability by everyone, regardless of their socialisation, is the true measure of quality of life. The possibility of living, occupying and crossing neighbourhood spaces, in the certainty of being part of a place that is, first and foremost, a community.

We want to tell of a different way of associating, working, studying and having fun, one made up of awareness, presence and community, in which full streets are places to be traversed with joy and pleasure, not fear.

San Lorenzo Pride was born in the awareness that no initiative “dropped from above” can be truly representative, but also as an opportunity for self-analysis by a part of the LGBTQIAK+ community towards the community itself, as a moment of exchange and deconstruction, first of all internal.

This year, more than ever, our aim is to focus on patriarchal, gender-based violence in a proactive and alternative way to the usual securitarian demands.

San Lorenzo Pride is not proposed as a “solution”, but as a place, as a time for gathering, reflection and action. As a space for people, to be community together, the only solution we believe in.

Who we address

San Lorenzo Pride is not a closed space of internal elaboration, but a process of profound transformation of society, so any person who recognises themselves in our values and/or wishes to explore a new way of imagining the present and the future on the basis of these can write to us or participate in our ass

public emblems, as well as the organisation of events in the neighbourhood.

We are also addressing all those organised entities (collectives, businesses, associations, etc.) that wish to collaborate in the success of the events that make up the San Lorenzo Pride panorama, each* in their own way and according to their possibilities!
